Reflexology is over 2000 years old. Hand and foot therapy has been practised in China and Egypt as long ago as 2330 B.C. and a form of foot therapy has also been practised by the North American Indian tribes for hundreds of years .
In Reflexology the reflexes on the hand and feet mirror the body. Dr William Fitzgerald developed Zone Therapy which divided the hands and feet into zones creating a systemised treatment for the feet.
A reflexology session involves the therapist using the thumb and fingers to stimulate the reflexes on the feet, hands and face. While receiving reflexology, it may induce a very deep state of relaxation, leading to reduced tension, improved circulation and processing towards homeostasis - returning the body to its natural balance.
Other benefits are it may - relieve mental stress, improve sleep, relax muscles and reduce muscular pain, improve digestion, increase mental alertness and clarity, stabilise emotions and improve energy levels.
Reflexology works holistically - the body, mind and the spirit.
